"If you were casting a movie for orbiting Jupiter who would you cast as the lead characters"
(Some of the actors in this hypothetical movie are dead or are too old for the role, so I am going to pretend I made this movie in 2010)
If I were to direct a movie adaptation of the book Orbiting Jupiter I would cast Ed Sanders as Jack. I would do this because he is a good actor, he is young enough to pass as a child better than most actors or actresses. He also looks average enough to make the viewer believe that Jack was just a normal sixth grader whose parents adopted another boy (just like Jack is in the book).
I would also cast Chandler Riggs as Joseph. You can tell he is older than Ed, just like the characters they are playing. In the book Jack is described as having dark hair and eyes, just like Chandler Riggs. He has been in “The Wronged Man” and “Home Invasion”, both serious movies so the audience will not be surprised when he is not being funny, which could be a problem if i were to cast Adam Sandler or Mel Brooks. Both actors have been in movies or shows that are full of emotion (Ed Sanders as Toby in “Sweeney Todd” and Chandler Riggs as Carl in “The Walking Dead”) so they are both used to portraying emotion in their work. This would be very important in the movie as Orbiting Jupiter is a very emotionally driven book.
I would cast Alan Rickman as Mr. Canton (I realize he is dead, but let's pretend I made my movie a few years ago.). I would do this because Mr. Canton reminds me of Severus Snape, Alans role in harry potter. Both characters are teachers that are sneaky, power hungry, dominant and mean. I think that Mr.Canton is old, which would make sense as Alan is now 70 years old.
